The Honolulu Professionals chapter (EWB-Aloha) conducted an initial site assessment in January 2012. During this visit a greater depth of understanding
about the community's water use and agricultural practices was gained. Meetings with community and village leaders, engineers, and local agriculture
administrators were conducted. Day visits were made to irrigation infrastructure sites as well as agricultural lands. It was concluded that the strain on
water resources in Mae Wan could be caused by several factors. Therefore, the best solution may be a combination of new or adapted infrastructure, behavioral
changes and or management practices.
